At home on Texel

On December 28th 2016 we moved here from Amsterdam; from the Veerstraat to Langwaal 2, in De Waal. What a change from Amsterdam to Texel! A century ago, Wessels great-grandfather Kikkert baked bread in Den Burg on the isle and in 2015 Anet created her film ‘Echo the Now’ on Texel. This is where as a family we have visited regularly for many years. We (Wessel, Anet, Lena and Finn) moved from a fast metropolitan life, to a place much more quiet. At first we couldn’t grasp the sense of space here, and that nature is so present: no longer sandwiched between houses. Now our neighbours are the fresh air, a football-field and the church. The night skies are pitch-dark and silent. We can study constellations and wait for shooting stars before being gently awakened by our garden song birds.
