The NOH workshop from 28 October to 31 October 2023 is given in De Waal on the island of Texel (The Netherlands). Noh is a traditional form of Japanese theatre, based on a technique that is passed on during the centuries, working according to a script. NOH theater is a highly formalised theater in all aspects, bringing visual art, theater and music, ánd working with the voice, together. Our goal is to train concentration, focus and connection to the body to act this very old form in order to gain tools for our presence and own performances. We finish the workshop with a performance in front of an audience.
We think that the workshop would respond to artists, actors, dancers, and people who are interested to act and learn about this traditional Japanese Art Form.
This NOH performance workshop is given by Ashley Thorpe*, who is affiliated with the University of London.
We need a minimum of 10 participants in order to give it a go, the max would be around 20 participants. I can provide about 6 overnight places. The workshop starts on Saturday, 11:30 (so you can arrive in the morning) and ends with a NOH performance on Tuesday-evening in the theater hall in the Dorpshuis in De Waal. The last boot to the mainland is at 21:00 hrs. and will be possible to get on to. We provide lunches and simple meals at all days, included in the price.
If you travel from abroad, Amsterdam is about one and a half hour by train from Den Helder, where the harbour is to take the boot (lasting 20 minutes) to Texel, there is also public transport (Texelhopper) to the location.
The costs of the training including meals are € 400,--
There is a special student offer for the workshop of € 375, including overnight stays and breakfast, lunch and hot meal.
